Autonomous systems keep people out of harm's way by operating machines without human guidance. Relying on unprecedented size and maneuverability, such capabilities are transforming the modern battlefield and creating opportunities for the U.S. military. As autonomous systems develop, special attention will be paid to ensure that autonomous and human capabilities cooperate seamlessly. Advances in artificial intelligence will contribute significantly to the battlefield utility of autonomy at nearly every level of command.
